With a safety squat bar, the weight is positioned in the centre of gravity. When first using the Riot Olympic Safety Squat Bar, it may feel as if the weight is a bit in the front, but it's actually somewhere between a back squat and front squat, in a neutral position.
The safety bar is also ideal for training when having injuries or in a recovery process. Limited shoulder mobility is also something where an SSB can be practical. BUT don’t think it’s just a rehab bar. The strongest lifters incorporate this special barbell into their training schedules. Because of its positioning, you’ll be squatting with a more upright back and increased taxation of your anterior chain. It allows for slightly more weight to be moved than conventional.

Knurling for safe grip
Even though the shape is different, the bar can be racked with most hooks. The diameter of the bar is 50mm at the sleeves and bar shaft. Comfortable and securely: the grip is knurled.
Improved: robust pads
The new pads are made in a one-piece way with a strong Velcro in the back and of synthetic leather. They’re tight fitted and robust, so also with heavy loads it will provide comfortable cushioning.

Ein Griff der Bar war defekt bzw. das Gewinde einer der beiden Buchsen. Habe mich per Mail an den Service gewendet, da es sich mit einem Griff schlecht beugen lässt. Leider KEINE Rückmeldung erhalten. Habe mir daher Schlüsselfeilen usw. gekauft und das Gewinde bearbeitet. Dann das Gewinde des Griffs und das Gewinde der Buchse geölt und mit aller Kraft den Griff draufgeschraubt. Bis auf ca. 2 Umdrehungen ist der Griff jetzt drauf und ich habe mir bei der Aktiob meine lang erarbeiteten Hornhautplatten auf meinen Händen abgeschält :D. Oberkörper geht die nächsten Tage daher schon mal nicht mehr. Die Stange an sich ist klasse (!) Wer jedoch ein "Montagsprodukt" wie ich erhält, hat noch Arbeit vor sich und brauch nicht auf Kulanz hoffen.

The Riot SSB looks sturdy and well-made. In particular the padding appears robust and well-finished. I of course looked at competitors' products before buying and most of them look on the pictures like the padding is flimsy and ill-fitting. Not so with the Riot bar. Also, the handles of the Riot SSB are relatively closely-spaced which ensures the weight is borne on the more stable area of your shoulder girdle.
I use the bar for 20-rep squats and (contrary to what I had read on some fora) I find that I can handle more poundage than with a straight bar. I can also squat deeper without rounding my back. My progression was becoming limited by my ability to keep the straight bar in position on my back towards the bitter end, but the SSB just sits in place. The only drawback is that the deep breathing required for the 20-rep format is somewhat restricted because you can't expand your chest as much as with a straight bar. But that's a small price to pay for the SSB's advantages.

Very nice bar. Rides tight and high on shoulders/neck. Sleeves more like an olympic bar than a typical specialty bar (not rotating. That would make no sense).
Its balanced a bit less forward than many others. So it is nicer for letting go of the handles in order to hold rack for balane on one legged squats etc. without getting too much of a push in the back of neck.

I've been using the bar for a couple of weeks. It's very comfortable to use and looks to be built to last.
