Original Texas Deadlift Bar

Built for one thing: pulling heavy.

Product Overview

The Texas Deadlift Bar is a specialist competition barbell engineered specifically to help you pull more weight. Handbuilt by Buddy Capps — the man who set the standard for powerlifting barbells since 1980 — this bar is the tool of choice for powerlifters who want more whip, a better grip, and a mechanical edge on the platform.

With a 27mm shaft and an extended length of 235cm, the Texas Deadlift Bar is designed to flex significantly before the plates leave the floor. That flex gives you a real mechanical advantage: the bar bends, you pull the slack out, and the load breaks the ground before the full weight is fighting you. The result is a more efficient pull — and more weight moved.

The red Cerakote finish adds high corrosion resistance while keeping the aggressive knurl sharp and grippy. Chrome sleeves complete the look.

Why a Deadlift Bar

Standard power bars are built to handle all three lifts. The Texas Deadlift Bar is built for one. The longer, thinner shaft creates significantly more whip than a stiff power bar — which means the weight effectively loads onto the bar progressively rather than all at once. For experienced lifters who have plateaued, or anyone chasing a PR, the difference is tangible.

Combined with the most aggressive knurling Texas Power Bars produces and a smooth centre shaft that protects your shins, this bar covers every performance detail that matters at the deadlift.

Key Features

  • 27mm shaft for maximum grip and bar whip
  • 235cm total length for increased flex during the pull
  • Most aggressive knurling for a secure hook or mixed grip on heavy attempts
  • No centre knurl — smooth centre shaft protects shins and thighs during setup
  • Red Cerakote finish with high corrosion resistance
  • Chrome sleeves
  • Bronze bushings — low maintenance, smooth sleeve rotation
  • ~40cm loadable sleeve length for competition bumpers or heavy iron
  • Handbuilt by Buddy Capps in Texas since 1980

Who This Bar Is For

  • Competitive powerlifters looking to maximise their deadlift
  • Lifters training for sanctioned powerlifting meets where deadlift bars are permitted
  • Athletes struggling with grip on thicker standard bars
  • Sumo and conventional pullers who want to make use of bar whip
  • Gym owners equipping a competition-grade platform

Note: Due to the high flex, this bar is not suitable for squats or bench press.

FAQ

What makes a deadlift bar different from a standard power bar?
A deadlift bar is longer (235cm) and thinner (27mm) than a standard power bar. The extra length and reduced shaft diameter increase flex (whip), allowing you to pull the slack out before the full load leaves the floor — giving you a mechanical advantage at the hardest part of the lift.

Why is there no centre knurl?
During the deadlift the bar contacts your shins and thighs. A smooth centre shaft prevents painful abrasion during setup and the pull itself.

Can I use this bar for squats or bench press?
No. The high flex makes it unsuitable and unsafe for squats or bench press. For those lifts, use a dedicated power bar or squat bar.

Is the Cerakote finish durable?
Yes. Cerakote is a polymer-ceramic coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance and holds up well under regular use, while keeping the knurl feel sharp.

Will it fit a standard rack?
The bar is longer than standard at 235cm. It fits in most racks, but be aware of the extra length when loading and moving around the platform.
