Overview
The Riot Deadlift Bar is engineered to maximize pulling performance. The 27 mm shaft increases whip, allowing the bar to bend under load so lifters can pull slack before the plates leave the floor. Aggressive 1.5 mm knurling ensures a secure grip even during maximal deadlift attempts. Like every bar in the Riot range, it was designed in-house, including the wide, sword-and-torch-inspired sleeve collar shared with the Squat Bar.

Part of the in-house design is the sleeve collar: an angled, faceted shape that reads as an Olympic torch from one side and a blade from the other. On the squat and deadlift bars it's at its widest, tapering down through the weightlifting and hybrid bars to its slimmest on the power bars.
The shaft is finished in black chrome and the sleeves in QPQ (Quench-Polish-Quench), a black nitrocarburizing treatment, two different coatings chosen for two different jobs. Black chrome on the shaft is thin and hard enough to preserve the aggressive 1.5mm knurling almost as sharply as it was cut, giving a secure hold on maximal pulls. QPQ on the sleeves is exceptionally resistant to wear and corrosion, so the sleeves keep spinning smoothly even after the sleeve-on-shaft contact takes repeated punishment from loading, dropping, and reloading plates.
Rotation comes from graphite-infused bronze bushings rather than needle bearings. In practice, that's a solid bronze sleeve bearing with graphite particles embedded directly into the metal, acting as a permanent, built-in lubricant that can't dry out, wash out, or need re-greasing. It lubricates itself for the working life of the bar. The slower rotation of the bushings keeps the sleeves composed under load. As the bar flexes through the first pull, the plates remain more settled instead of adding unnecessary movement to the lift.
How Deadlift Bar Whip Works Through the Pull
At 27 mm, this is the thinnest shaft in the Riot range, and that's a fully intentional design choice. The shaft's stiffness against bending falls off steeply as diameter decreases, so even a few millimetres of extra thinness make a disproportionately large difference in how much a bar flexes under load. On a deadlift bar, the so-called "Whip" works in your favour: as you set up and begin to pull, the thin shaft bends and stores energy, taking the slack out of the bar before the plates actually leave the floor, and can help carry momentum through as the bar straightens back out during the pull. It's the opposite design goal to the Squat Bar, where whip is engineered out rather than in.
Every Riot bar carries the same identification system: its name, weight, and shaft diameter are laser-engraved on the inside face of the sleeve collar, so the specs stay legible for the bar's whole life no matter how it's stored. The blue end cap identifies this as a 20 kg bar, with the weight printed clearly for quick selection on a busy gym floor.

Why is a deadlift bar more flexible than a power bar?

Can I use this bar for squats or bench press?
