Riot Hybrid Bar

Overview

The Riot Hybrid Bar bridges the gap between powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting bars. Its 28 mm shaft, dual markings (IPF + IWF), and moderate spin make it a multi-purpose barbell for gyms and functional training environments that combine strength training, XFit-style work, and Olympic lifting in the same session. Like every bar in the Riot range, it was developed in-house and features our sword-and-torch-inspired sleeve collar in a medium-width design, slimmer than the version used on the squat and deadlift bars, but wider than the power bar collar.

An Olympic Barbell Built for Powerlifting, Weightlifting and Functional Training

The Riot Hybrid Bar features our in-house sleeve collar design. Its angled, faceted shape is inspired by both an Olympic torch and a sword blade, giving the bar a distinctive look that carries across the Riot range. The Hybrid Bar uses a medium-width sleeve collar, positioned between the slimmer design of the Riot Power Bar and the wider collar found on the Riot Squat Bar and Riot Deadlift Bar.

The shaft and sleeves are finished in hard chrome. It's the same tough, bright chrome finish used across the Riot bar range. It's thin, dense, and highly resistant to rust and abrasion. It follows the knurling closely enough to keep a crisp knurl feel through years of heavy training, offering long-term durability without the added cost of a competition-calibrated bar.

Rotation comes from graphite-infused bronze bushings rather than needle bearings. These solid bronze sleeve bushings have graphite particles embedded directly into the metal, creating a permanent, self-lubricating system that won't dry out over the working life of the bar. The trade-off is deliberate: bushings rotate more slowly and with greater resistance than bearings, providing smoother, more controlled sleeve rotation that limits unnecessary sleeve and plate rotation during functional training, while still offering enough spin for occasional Olympic-style lifts.

Hybrid Barbell with 28 mm shaft

The 28 mm shaft offers moderate whip, providing enough flex to support bar speed and turnover in Olympic-style movements, while the bushings keep sleeve rotation controlled for greater stability during heavier strength work.

Every Riot bar features the same identification system. The bar's name, weight, and shaft diameter are laser-engraved on the inside face of the sleeve collar, so the markings remain legible throughout the life of the bar, regardless of how it's stored: hung, stacked, or racked sleeve collar-first. The end cap repeats the essential information at a glance. It's colour-coded by weight (blue for this 20kg bar) and has the weight printed directly on the cap, making it easy to identify the correct bar for the intended exercise without checking a label.

FAQ

What's a hybrid bar good for?
Anything in between. Functional training, XFit-style WODs, and gyms that combine powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting movements in the same training session.

Can I use it for both Olympic lifts and powerlifting?
Yes. The 28 mm shaft, moderate knurling, and moderate spin sit deliberately between our dedicated power bars and weightlifting bars, so it handles snatches, cleans, squats, and presses well without specialising in any one discipline.

What are the dual markings for?
The 81 cm markings match IPF powerlifting hand spacing, while the 91 cm markings match IWF Olympic weightlifting hand spacing, so one bar supports both grip standards.

Why no centre knurl?
The Hybrid Bar has no centre knurl for greater comfort during high rep Olympic-style movements and front rack positions, where a centre knurl can become abrasive against the neck and throat.

Bushings or bearings?
Graphite infused bronze bushings. They provide more spin than a typical power bar, but less than a dedicated Olympic bearing bar, giving a controlled balance between stability and rotation.

What's laser engraved on this bar, and where?
The bar's name, weight, and 28 mm shaft diameter are laser engraved on the inside face of the sleeve collar, so they remain legible throughout the life of the bar. The end cap repeats the essential information, is colour coded blue for this 20 kg bar, and has the weight printed directly on the cap.

Why does the sleeve collar look like that?
It is part of Riot's in house design language. The angled, faceted sleeve collar is inspired by both an Olympic torch and a double edged sword. On the Hybrid Bar, it uses a medium width profile that sits between the slim sleeve collar on the power bars and the wider version on the squat and deadlift bars.
