Grabbed this bar used to help me in prep for my next meet since I typically pull with an Ohio or Texas Deadlift bar for my federation. Although I prefer a sharper/more aggressive knurl (I found this to be quite mild) there is plenty of grip provided considering I pull over/under. The bar provides plenty of whip, probably just as much as the Ohio or Texas deadlift bars but I have no way to quantify it. Might be able to tell better on days that I go heavy which I haven’t yet with this bar. Quality of the bar seems good too, no issues with coating or anything else yet. Not sure how competitive the price is considering it’s non-domestic, I picked it up used for $240 and glad I did. Based on this bar I’d consider strengthshop for future purchases.

Having a brand new barbell club at Strange CrossFit we decided on the bastard bars and have had nothing but great feedback from our members, highly recommended barbells.

Amazing whip, amazing finish, just the right amount of bite in the knurling. I've been putting this bar through its paces for several months now and its holding up to everything I throw at it.

Awesome bar, used it in competition and it training. Great whip and solid but not overbearing knurling. I spent months deciding which bar to invest in and I could not be happier with my decision. As a bonus it was well packaged and arrived quick!

Finally got around to purchasing this deadlift bar. Absolutely love it! Knurling is very grippy but not too sharp. Feels very secure in my hands without tearing them up. Very happy with it and glad I purchased it over other deadlift bars that I have used in the past (Rogue, TSS, and Okie). And of course, Strength Shop customer service is top notch!

Bastard Deadlift Bar - Black Chrome Shaft

Beautiful! This was a big purchase for me, but I'm already delighted. Bought to replace the naff squat bars at my local gym for deadlifting. The knurling on this bar has enabled me to pull significantly higher weights without straps and it's almost silent when putting the weight down. Gorgeous! 3 Plate DL here I come!

LOVE IT!! Absolutely love this bar, always used a power bar and wish I’d bought a BASTARD BAR sooner. More whip on it then an Amsterdam dominatrix and the knurling is savage it’s like gripping a holly bush !! Grip will never fail again

English: Absolutely perfect bar ... with its very nice sharp knurling and its 27mm diameter its much better to grab than my normal 28.5mm PowerBar. This bar is not that cheap but for people with deadlift ambition definitely worth the money. Would buy it again.

First I will go over what I don't like about this bar. #1 The knurling goes all the way to the sleeves. That's it! Now what I like about it. #1 The price point, it might seem high, but it is not because shipping is included! #2 The nickel coating is gorgeous! And it's on the sleeves too!! #4 The knurling is the right amount of aggressive. #3 It whips very very nice! And #5 the overall feel is fantastic! Wedged in without a problem the first pull!

Great Bar I bought one of these for my home gym as I was getting close to the max load of my regular bastard bar. This is my only experience of a Deadlift bar, the 27mm shaft and agressive knurling ensures a solid grip and the whip feels great.

Bastard Deadlift Bar - Black Chrome Shaft

International competition spec bar 10/10 After competing in several competitions in the UK and all were using the Bastard Deadlift bar, i decided to purchase one for myself. We have several speciality bars in the gym i train at; Rogue Ohio DL, Texas DL, Okie DL and now a bastard DL. All the bars have a similar feel until you get to 300+ kg, then they all behave very differently. The Bastard DL feels stiffer than the others, not as much whip before the plates leave the floor, and for me that's not a bad thing. I try and make my training lifts difficult, then anything easier in a comp is a bonus. The knurling on this bar is aggressive and offers and faultless grip. On closer inspection the diamonds on the knurling pattern are symmetrical. This shows the level of engineering and craftsmanship by the bars builder. As a mechanical engineer i appreciate the details. Knurling isn't easy to get right. I've used this bar for over a year and today i completed some maintenance on it (stripped down and cleaned). I estimate, in total, I've lifted over 52,000kg on this bar in the last 12 months. There is virtually no wear on any of the mating faces or working parts of my bar. This proves the quality of the parts used. A bar that will last a lifetime.

A thing of beauty Over a year ago I got a standard 20kg bar as part of a set of weights (not from here) which is all I could afford at the time. Has done me proud but my neighbours complained about the noise on deadlift day! I don't lift much but the noise came from the bar itself - the sleeves moving. So treated myself to this. It is absolutely in a different class. Beautifully made, balanced and completely silent! Can't recommend it enough, plus the service from these guys was fantastic.

10/10 Fantastic Couldn't of wished for a better bit of kit! + The black looks awsome. + Fantastic build quality. + Just enough Whip (not as much as a Texas) Just right. + Super grippy. 10/10 for this bar. As a lifter pulling anywhere from reps of 200+ to singles of 300kg+ this bar was awesome to train with.

Bastard Deadlift Bar - Black Chrome Shaft

I just had the opportunity to try this bar at the Strength Shop USA warehouse and I must say I love it! I was a little concerned that the knurling wasn't labeled as aggressive but it actually feels really good. Not as aggressive as a Texas deadlift bar, Rogue Ohio deadlift bar, or an Okie deadlift bar but felt just as secure in my hands (at least in my opinion). My hands are on the smaller size and grip is always my limiting factor in deadlift. I was able to pull 475lbs multiple times without even thinking about my grip (I was also able to go heavier than normal with a double overhand grip on this bar vs my Rogue Ohio Power Bar). And my hands weren't destroyed afterwards so I think this would be great for regular use. Thank you Phil for giving me the opportunity to train with this bar today. Absolutely fantastic customer service!

Bastard Deadlift Bar - Black Chrome Shaft

I haven't had the pleasure to try the Texas deadlift bar, but I have 10 plus years of lifting experience and my favorite lift is the deadlift. When I built my home-gym I bought myself a Eleiko powerlifting barbell to use for the big three lifts. I love that sturdy, stiff and robust bar. However - It killed my ego in the deadlift due to the stiffness. Back when I trained in local gyms they always had a softer, cheaper barbell that flexed. That way the weight came gradually. With the Eleiko I failed more regularly in the start. This lead to me losing the hope of ever seen progress in the deadlift again. With this bar I get that soft start, but with a good knurling. Yes, the \u201cmild\u201d knurling on this bar is actually quite sharp - Near to being aggressive. I would say that it's just right for a good grip without tearing callouses. The downside as a conventional puller is that the sharp knurling on the deadlift bastard bar starts closer to the center compared to a regular powerlifting barbell. I recon that sumo pullers might enjoy that feature, but as a conventional puller that means more risk of road rash on my shins. After owning it for a couple of weeks I love this bar, and I am hopeful that I will finally reach a 300 kg pull with the help of this one!
