Riot Power Bar – Chrome

Overview

The Riot Power Bar combines competition-style dimensions with a durable hard chrome finish designed for everyday training. Its 29 mm shaft, sharp 1.2 mm diamond centre knurl and 81 cm markings give it the familiar feel of a competition power bar across squats, bench presses and deadlifts. Although it is not calibrated or certified for IPF competition, its key dimensions and knurl layout match those of the Riot competition models. Like every bar in the Riot range, it was designed in-house, including the distinctive sleeve collar inspired by both a sword blade and an Olympic torch.

Hard Chrome Powerlifting Barbell with 29 mm Shaft and Controlled Rotation

An in-house-designed sleeve collar gives the Riot range its distinctive look. Its angled, faceted shape suggests an Olympic torch from one side and a blade from the other. On the Power Bars, the sleeve collar is the slimmest in the range. The Weightlifting, Hybrid, Squat and Deadlift Bars use wider versions scaled to their respective proportions.

The 29 mm shaft and sleeves have a hard chrome finish, using the same durable, polished coating proven across the sleeves of the Riot range. Hard chrome forms a thin, dense layer with high resistance to rust and abrasion. Because the coating follows the knurl profile closely, the bar maintains a firm, secure grip through years of heavy training. This Power Bar retains the standard ±1% weight tolerance of a training bar but is not calibrated for competition.

Graphite-infused bronze bushings provide a slower, more controlled sleeve rotation. Each solid bronze bushing contains graphite particles embedded directly in the metal, where they act as permanent internal lubrication. The graphite does not dry out and continues to lubricate the bushings throughout the working life of the bar. Compared with needle bearings, the bushings rotate with more resistance, keeping the sleeves calmer under load. During squats and bench presses, this reduces unnecessary plate rotation and over-rotation, helping the loaded bar remain stable instead of introducing additional movement.

At 29 mm, the shaft gives this powerlifting barbell the stiffness required to remain stable and predictable during heavy squats and bench presses. The shaft remains stable under heavy squats and bench presses, while retaining enough controlled flex to avoid feeling overly rigid in the hands. Its behaviour sits between the pronounced whip of the Riot Deadlift Bar and the near-zero flex of the Riot Squat Bar.

Powerlifting Barbell with Slim Sleeve Collar and Clear Identification

Every Riot bar uses the same identification system. The product name, weight and shaft diameter are laser-engraved on the inner face of the sleeve collar, keeping the specifications legible throughout the working life of the bar, whether it is hung, stacked or stored with the sleeve collar facing forwards. The end cap provides the essential information at a glance. It is colour-coded by weight, blue for this 20 kg Power Bar, with the weight printed directly on the cap. This makes it easy for anyone on the gym floor to identify the correct bar for the intended discipline without checking a separate label.

FAQ

Is this bar IPF-legal for competition?
No, it isn't calibrated or certified for IPF competition, but every geometric spec (diameter, knurl, markings) matches our competition bars. It's built for training, testing PRs, and daily gym use.

What's the difference between this and the Calibrated Stainless Steel bar?
Same geometry and knurling, but this bar isn't calibrated to ±50g (it holds the standard ±1% tolerance) and uses a hard chrome finish rather than uncoated stainless steel, so the knurling feels very slightly less sharp.

How durable is hard chrome for daily gym use?
Very durable. Hard chrome is one of the most abrasion- and corrosion-resistant coatings available and is a proven standard on commercial gym barbells.

Can I use it for squats and deadlifts, or only bench?
All three. The 29mm stiff shaft and center knurl make it just as suited to squats and deadlifts as to bench press.

Bushings or bearings?
Graphite-infused bronze bushings for slower, more controlled spin — ideal for stability in squats and bench press.

What's laser-engraved on this bar, and where?
The name, weight, and shaft diameter are laser-engraved on the inside face of the sleeve collar, so they stay legible for the bar's whole life. The end cap repeats the weight and is colour-coded blue for this 20kg bar.

Why does the sleeve collar look like that?
It's part of Riot's in-house design language: the angled, faceted collar is drawn to suggest both an Olympic torch and a double-edged sword. Collar width is slimmest on the power bars, mid-width on weightlifting and hybrid bars, and widest on squat and deadlift bars.

Powerlifting Barbell Finishes Compared

All Riot Power Bar variants share the same core specifications: a weight of 20 kg, an overall length of 220 cm, a 29 mm shaft, 50 mm sleeves, 81 cm IPF markings and a recommended maximum load of 680 kg. Most variants also use the same sharp 1.2 mm diamond knurl with a 120 mm centre knurl. The variants differ in their finish, weight calibration, knurl pattern and approval for IPF competition.

The finish affects both surface protection and how directly the knurling is felt in the hands. Bare stainless steel has no plated layer, so the knurl retains the exact edge produced during machining and gives the sharpest feel in the range. Black chrome forms a thin, very hard coating that follows the machined profile closely. This preserves almost the same sharpness while adding a dark, wear-resistant surface. Black chrome is not included on the IPF's approved finish list, so these models are not legal for IPF competition.

Nickel is applied in a slightly thicker, softer layer, which reduces the sharpest edge of the knurl compared with black chrome. The finish is approved by the IPF, making nickel and stainless steel the two competition-legal options in the range. Hard chrome is used on the shaft of the Power-Chrome training bar and on the sleeves throughout the Riot range. It provides a durable surface for regular commercial gym use, but is not used for the calibrated or IPF-approved models.
